Hauppauge pMVP Portable Media Player

Hauppauge pMVP Portable Media Player

Hauppauge pMVP Portable Media Player, currently only available in the UK is one of the best looking PMP's I have seen. The Hauppauge pMVP can play and record video and music and display a variety of photographic formats. It requires a Windows XP computer with USB 1.1 or higher to be able to connect to transfer files the pMVP.

The big selling point of the pMVP is it's 7" wide format LCD screen giving you that widescreen 16:9 ratio display. The resolution of the screen is an impressive 720 x 480 pixels which is the highest resolution of a portable media player I have seen yet.

Dimensions of the player are 192mm(L) x 115mm(W) x 28mm(H), that's 7.5 x 4.5 x 1 inch approximately. The unit weighs about 600 grams or about 21 ounces. The Hauppauge pMVP has a sleek silver case that encloses the 20GB hard drive and the built in Li-polymer battery. The battery lasts for approximately 2-3 hours when playing back video.

A wide variety of formats are supported by the pMVP including DivX 3.11/4.x/5.1/5.2 (avi), Microsoft WMV9 and Apple Quicktime 6 for mp4 files. MP3 and WMA are supported for audio playback and recording is done in MP3. Photographs can be viewed on the player in JPEG, BMP and GIF. To show video and images through a TV you will need a television with a composite video input.

The Hauppauge pMVP Portable Media Player is larger and heavier than many other PVP's but the pMVP does have a larger screen. The 20GB drive could be larger but I have said this for many other portable media players. In all this is one of the best players I have seen so far.
