The Zune is a 30GB hard drive portable media player. This is Microsoft's foray into the portable media player market. This is a stylish looking mp3 and mp4 player that is built around the Zune marketplace.
The thing about Microsoft's Zune is that it has been built as a social media player, that means sharing music. You are able to share music or other content on your Zune wirelessly if you are within range of another Zune player. Whilst this sounds good you can only connect with other Zune players and and songs you copy can only be played 3 times, then you have to pay for the song.
There is a large 3 inch screen and a scroll wheel like the iPod for controlling the device. It also has a built in FM tuner and you can also play video and view pictures. A nice feature of the player is that you can view images on the screen in portrait or landscape mode.
Unfortunately being a Microsoft gadget you can only use the device with a Windows PC running XP service pack 2 or newer. The included software allows you to transfer your files between the computer and the Zune.
In all although the player looks good the restrictive software lets it down. It's more of a way to lock you into buying music from Microsoft that being designed for what people really want.
